Visa

The visa is a document issued by the Brazilian Consular Representations abroad that allows the entry and stay of foreigners in the national territory, provided they meet the conditions set forth in current legislation.

To apply for a visa, citizens of other countries must present a completed Visa Application Form, valid travel document, proof of payment of consular fees, International Immunization Certificate - if necessary, and other documents specific to the type of visa requested.

Do you need a visa?
Brazil adopts a visa policy based on the principle of reciprocity. This means that nationals of countries that require visas from Brazilian citizens to enter their territories will also need a visa to travel to Brazil. Under current Brazilian immigration legislation (Law 13.445 / 2017), the visa exemption can only be granted by the Brazilian authorities, on a reciprocal basis, through bilateral agreement on the subject. Brazil has bilateral agreements on visa exemptions with about 90 countries.

Click here and see the countries where the visa application is required for entry into Brazil.

Where to apply for a visa?
The Itamaraty is the body of the Brazilian Government responsible for granting visas, which takes place through Embassies, Consulates General, Consulates and Vice-Consulates of Brazil abroad. Brazilian visas will never be granted in the national territory. Therefore, it will not be possible to obtain your visa at airports, ports or any point of entry of the Brazilian border. Likewise, the Itamaraty and the Federal Police (body responsible for migratory control in Brazilian borders) may not authorize the entry of foreign nationals without the appropriate visa.

If the citizen of another country is already in national territory and wishes to extend the period of stay or obtain a residence permit, he should seek the Ministry of Justice / Federal Police or the Ministry of Labor if the authorization is, for example, for purposes work or research.

The Ministry of Health has extended the recommendation for the yellow fever vaccine throughout the national territory.

Measles
Currently, Brazil has recorded outbreaks of measles in the states of Roraima and Amazonas.

Diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis
It is recommended that foreign tourists come to Brazil with a complete vaccination schedule for diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis, according to the indications recommended in the country of origin.
