Data from the National Council of Justice (CNJ) show that more than 3,5 million documents have been handled by the Brazilian notary since August 2016, when CNJ Resolution No. 228 / 2016 established the holders of extrajudicial notaries as competent authorities to issue the Apostille in Brazil.
The apostilage certifies, before authorities of countries signatory to the Hague Convention, the authenticity of public documents. Since the out-of-court notary offices in Brazil began to offer the service, the apostilamento has been growing steadily in the country. From August 2016, beginning of the new model, until December 2016, 414.966 documents were apostilated throughout Brazil. In the year of 2017, the number went up to 1.312.467 and in 2018 to 1.804.478. The sum of the three years indicates that more than 3,5 million documents were handled in the period.
The efficiency of the services provided by extrajudicial services in document handling has contributed to Brazil hosting, for the first time, the Hague's International Forum of the Electronic Handout Program (e-APP).
Held annually by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), The Hague International e-Handout Program Forum (e-APP) is an event designed to discuss new technologies that can improve the operation and effectiveness of the document authentication process. carried out through the Handout Convention on Foreign Public Documents (Handout Convention). In its 11ª edition, The International Forum of The Hague Electronic Handout Program (e-APP) will be held between October 16 and 18 in Fortaleza, Ceará.
